MILAN – Costa Rica is ready to lift a 30-year ban on growing Robusta coffee, official sources confirmed on Friday. The Ministry of Agriculture has already issued a resolution that is currently awaiting the approval of the President Luis Guillermo Solis before it comes into effect.

According to the Minister of Agriculture Felipe Arauz, the decree will allow the cultivation of the Robusta variety in specific areas to be determined by the country’s National Coffee Institute, or Icafé.

There will be no mixing of varieties along the production chain, including the post-harvest processes, Arauz stated in an interview.
