The credibility of UTZ’s program for sustainable farming has been recognized once again by the ISEAL alliance, the global membership association for sustainability standards.

On May 25, ISEAL’s Membership Committee found that UTZ demonstrates overall compliance with ISEAL’s Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards (Standard-Setting Code) v 6.0.

The code of Good Practice stands for a commitment to delivering positive impact and embracing credible practices, and is seen as global references for developing credible standards.

A sign of trust

Consumers and companies are regularly confronted with hundreds of sustainability claims. ISEAL membership and compliance with the Code of Good Practice is an easy way to divide the credible programs from the rest.

One of the most important aspects of the Code of Good Practice is transparency on the way a sustainability standard is set, its impact, and the way improvements are made over time.

During a recent discussion event in Amsterdam, UTZ’s executive director Han de Groot emphasized the importance of transparency to UTZ:

“Transparency is what makes you credible. At UTZ, we believe in an open approach. At every step of the supply chain, UTZ makes its processes and standards available to the public, posting all relevant documents in our Resource Library for our stakeholders to read and share.

These standards and processes are backed up through our adherence to the ISEAL Code of Good Practice.”

The UTZ label is a sign of trust for companies and consumers alike.

Together with its +2000 members along the supply chain, and over a million farmers and workers producing sustainable coffee, cocoa and tea and hazelnut, UTZ is making big steps towards a world where sustainability is the norm.
