VIENNA, Austria – From September 8th to 10th 2023, Europe’s coffee scene will meet again in Vienna ‘s Marxhalle and invite you to a fascinating journey of discovery through the world of coffee. Around 100 brands and companies present new trends and their highlights. The festival program is also worth a visit: from a world champion from Austria to Quentin Tarantino – everything is there to drop by.

Coffee is still trendy and “back to basics” in coffee preparation is becoming more and more popular. Espresso makers and filters like Chemex are experiencing a boom because the conscious preparation of coffee also affects the taste. And that is known to be subjective.

Environmental Social Governance the core theme of the Vienna Coffee Festival

The core theme of the festival this year is Environmental Social Governance (ESG). Actually acting sustainably and socially affects all areas of a company, especially in the coffee industry. The three days are dedicated to responsible coffee enjoyment with real values. Know-how meets best practice examples. Talk rounds, impulse lectures and key notes address proposed solutions. Informative & provocative, but always with added value.

Diverse program

So is the transparent procurement of sustainable raw coffee from the countries of origin, i.e. fresh, seasonal coffee varieties for the roasting plants, a discipline of its own at the “Green Coffee Lab” curated by Oliver Goetz. Here,

Europe’s best green coffee traders present their specialty coffees in cupping sessions and provide detailed information on their business models and their commitment to sustainability.

In the “Roaster Village“, curated by La Marzocco Austria, visitors can immerse themselves in the most exclusive coffees from the best micro-roasters in Europe and learn the stories of their coffee farmers.

In addition, visitors have the opportunity to discover and taste innovations and new trends – “with and without revolutions” – in the “Craft Spirit Cottage“. In the “Newcomer Area“, entrepreneurs will demonstrate their latest developments in direct exchange with the public.

Entertaining competitions

Just like an excellent cup of coffee, a brilliant cocktail requires perfect balance. The most exciting cocktail competition of the year (featuring coffee-based drinks with the “Tarantino twist“) on the cinematographic mixology stage, the country’s best baristas and bartenders compete.

The “Coffee Roasting Championship” of the SCA Austria (Speciality Coffee Association) is a very special treat this year, as Austria has Felix Teiretzbacher as the reigning world champion.

Participants are judged on their performance in assessing the quality of the green coffee (coffee grading), in developing a roast profile that best showcases the coffee’s desirable characteristics, and in the final cup quality of the roasted coffees.
