MILAN – The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, or Vicofa has issued a forecast stating that the new crop will be 2.3% lower on year at 1.71 million tonnes (28.5 million 60-kg bags).

The drop in production is attributed to heavy rain, cherry drop and to many farmers having switched from coffee to alternative tree crops.

Most private trade and industry forecasts still predict that this year’s crop might well exceed 30 million bags.
