Vietnam’s coffee exports up 21.5% and 3.9% in value in Jan-Feb period

HANOI, Vietnam – Vietnam’s coffee exports during the month of February are estimated at 146,000 tons, valued at 280 million dollars, according to the latest statistics issued by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development (MARD).

This brings the volume of coffee exports in the first two months of this year to 347 thousand tons, or 5,783 million bags and 672 million USD, up 21.5% in volume and 3.9% in value over the same period in 2017.

However, in terms of price, the average price of coffee in the first month was only 1,952USD/ton, down 13.5 % over the same period of 2017.

Germany and the United States continue to be the two largest coffee consuming markets of Vietnam in January with market share of 13.4% and 12.2%, respectively.

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung from the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority (MARD), though ranked second in the world, from now until 2020 and vision toward 2030, Vietnam will reduce the coffee planting area, reduce the export of coffee beans, and increase production of processed coffee.
