Study suggests caffeine consumption in older women may reduce risk of dementia

Caffeine consumption in older women seems to reduce the risk of dementia.

According to a report in the Washington Post, a new study suggests a significant relationship between the two, but stops short of establish ’cause and effect’.

The women in the study self-reported drinking more than 261 milligrams of caffeine per day.That is the equivalent of about two to three eight ounce cups of coffee, five to six eight ounce cups of black tea, or seven to eight 12 ounce cans of soda.

According to the study, in 10 years or less with annual assessments of cognitive function, 388 of the women received a diagnosis of probable dementia or some from of global cognitive impairment.
