Step aside Melbourne, it’s Sydney’s time to shine and show why it’s one of Australia’s top coffee destinations. The team that brought the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE2015) to the people of Victoria is heading north this September to host The Coffee Experience in Sydney.

For three days, The Royal Hall of Industries in Moore Park will come alive when Sydney’s coffee community comes together to celebrate the best of Australia’s coffee industry, from products to technology and coffee competitions.

“Melbourne had its turn in March, now it’s Sydney’s chance to show the industry what it’s made of. Australia’s coffee community is incredibly tight and we want The Coffee Experience to celebrate how vibrant, leading, and exciting it is,” says Show Director Simon Coburn.

The Coffee Experience debuted in 2014, and became the most successful dedicated coffee trade show in Sydney’s recent history. This year The Coffee Experience is set to become Australia’s most inclusive coffee show.

“We invite the broader coffee industry and coffee franchises to come together and utilise this professional, dedicated platform. Come and see more than 60 exhibitors on display, including roasters, coffee franchises, innovative products, ancillary suppliers, and new coffee technologies. There will be something to satisfy every coffee lover’s tastebuds.”

In an exciting first for The Coffee Experience, the event will cater to coffee chain baristas, with the introduction of the DaVinci Gourmet Australian Coffee Chain Championships, running from 4 – 5 September.

Brought to you by the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA), the exciting new coffee competition will put the country’s leading coffee chains in battle to test the skills of their baristas. Baristas will battle it out in three rounds, including of Latte Art, Seasonal Beverage, and Service Time. The teams will be judged on accuracy, time, consistency, cleanliness, and service to the judges.

“We’ve tried to tailor the format to reflect the busy coffee chain environment,” says Brent Williams, President of ASCA. “This competition is all about promoting the skills that make a great coffee brand. We’re looking forward to seeing what the best baristas from Australia’s best coffee chains can do.”

Australia’s top coffee chains have already signed up, including McCafé, Muffin Break, Jamaica Blue, Velocity Espresso and Bar, Shingle Inn, The Coffee Club, Cafe2U, Gloria Jean’s Coffee, Michel’s Patisserie, and Donut King.

ASCA will also host its Regional Coffee Championships at The Coffee Experience. For the first time the competition invites Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales baristas to compete together on a united platform.

Baristas from across the East Coast will have the opportunity to represent their state in the Barista, Latte Art, Brewers Cup, Coffee in Good Spirits, and Cup Tasting Championships.

Last year ACT’s Sasa Sestic of Ona Coffee was crowned the Australian Barista Champion and went all the way in the global competition, winning the coveted World Barista Championship in Seattle, United States in April. This year’s competition could very well unveil a new world champion in the making.

“We’re really excited to see all the talent from Sydney, from both the specialty coffee and coffee chain industries,” says The Coffee Experience Show Director Simon. “There are only a few months to go so we encourage all barista talent to get training, sign up to the competitions and bring their best to the event – there’s nothing quite like that winning feeling.”
