TAIPEI – The Taipei International Tea, Coffee & Wine Show took place on November 22-25, featuring a pavilion organized by the Central American Trade Office ( CATO ) to showcase the stellar coffee products of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

CATO stated that overseas coffee exports were not hampered by an outbreak of a fungus infection that devastated plantations across the region, with countries in the region maintaining shipping volumes and contract obligations with inventory in reserve. Most notably, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have seen the most rapid growth in regional coffee exports.

In recent years, Taiwan’s demand for high-end coffee bean varietals has been increasing rapidly, with local companies securing supplies of the prized geisha variety that originates from high-elevation regions of Panama via bidding.

The public is invited to experience and sample this wide variety of coffee offerings from Central America. Visitors will receive a complimentary reusable shopping bag by participating in social media activities at the Central American Pavilion, located at booth A632.

According to organizers, this year’s international tea, coffee and wine trade show recorded unprecedented numbers, with exhibitors numbering 1,300, an 18-percent year-on-year growth.

Since its founding in 1997, CATO has been a major proponent for forging bilateral relations, business cooperation and investment development between Taiwanese enterprises and the nations of Central America.

The organization earlier advised Taiwanese enterprises to consider Central America as an alternative investment destination to China and Southeast Asia.

According to CATO, Central American nations have been participating in educational exchanges with Taiwan in hopes of reducing the language barriers faced by Taiwanese companies in commercial endeavors.
