MANILA – Allegro Beverage Corporation, the country’s leader in providing complete beverage solutions announces today its partnership with the Association of Filipino Baristas Inc. (AFBI), licensed national body of World Coffee Events to the Philippines, in staging the 2nd Philippine National Barista Championship (PNBC) – the country’s most prestigious barista competition.

Preliminary rounds for the 2nd PNBC are set from October 15 to 16 at Treston International College in Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig while final round of the event is set on October 17 at Resorts World Manila in Newport Boulevard, Pasay City.

“Allegro Beverage Corporation have been serving the local coffee industry for the past 15 years, and it is with great honour and pride that AFBI, along with World Coffee Events, recognize our company as a partner in advancing the Barista profession in the Philippines,” says Leo de Leon, President and General Manager of Allegro Beverage Corporation.

“The partnership with AFBI in staging the 2nd Philippine National Barista Championship is a realization to our goal that local Baristas will no longer be seen as just people behind the counter, but as professionals with refined skills in a culinary art,” adds Mr. de Leon.

“We are pleased to know and welcome AFBI’s partnership with Allegro Beverage Corporation in staging the 2014 Philippine National Barista Championship,” comments Cynthia Ludviksen, Managing Director of World Coffee Events.

“The World Barista Championship aims to spread enthusiasm and passion for specialty coffee and draw more attention and respect for Baristas in the industry. The 2nd PNBC will enable Filipino coffee enthusiasts to better appreciate the technical skills, knowledge, and training required to create their favourite specialty beverages,” notes Ms. Ludviksen.

PNBC encourages and recognizes professional achievement in the art and skill of espresso beverage preparation and service.

During the competition, Baristas will prepare and serve twelve coffee drinks: four espressos, four cappuccinos and four original espresso-based signature beverages of their own creation, all within a 15-minute timeframe.

Seven Judges, including four Sensory Judges, two Technical Judges and one Head Judge, will evaluate each of the competing Baristas.

The winner of the 2nd PNBC will represent the Philippines in the 2015 World Barista Championship, April 9 to 12, 2015 at the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo in Seattle, USA.

Resorts World Manila is the exclusive platinum sponsor of the 2014 competition. Treston International College is the event’s gold sponsor. For more information, visit the competition’s official website www.philippinenationalbaristachampionship.com.
