TRIESTE, Italy – illycaffè has announced the acquisition of an 80% stake in Capitani, a company specialising in the designing and manufacturing single-serve coffee machines, mainly for the home segment. The Capitani family, founders of the company, will retain a 20% stake.

Founded in 1979 in Solbiate con Cagno (Como), Capitani is a leader in the coffee machine sector, recognised for its technical quality, constant innovation and efficient industrial processes.

Through this upstream integration, illycaffè confirms its commitment to the excellence and high quality that distinguish Italian-made products, enhancing and supporting the Italian production chain.

In particular, the transaction will maximise the quality of authentic Italian espresso in the cup, combining illy’s unique blend with proprietary preparation systems.

Thanks to illycaffè’s international presence and its leadership in the premium market segment, the acquisition, capitalising on Capitani’s technological and industrial know-how, will enable the development of synergies and economies of scale, and significantly reduce imports from non-European suppliers.

The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.
