Colombia concludes its partecipation for the International Coffee Day commemorations at the FAO in Rome

ROME – As part of the International Coffee Day celebrations held from October 1 to 3 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Colombia successfully concluded its exhibition, highlighting the cultural, social, and economic value of its coffee.

Over the three-day event, more than 1,000 cups of Colombian coffee were served in the flag atrium and the Uzbekistan room to attendees including diplomats, journalists, international delegates, businesspeople, and visitors, who had the opportunity to enjoy the various denominations of origin that are born in the mountains of Colombia.

Jhenifer Mojica, Colombia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Agencies based in Rome, expressed her satisfaction with the positive impact of the showcase, especially due to the active participation of members of the Colombian Coffee Alliance, including barista Silverio Cardozo — a peace signatory and an example of reintegration and productive reconciliation.

Cardozo has now dedicated his work and knowledge to perfecting his talent in the preparation, promotion, and tasting of specialty coffees, proudly representing the transformation and resilience of Colombia’s coffee-growing community.

In addition to tastings, Colombia’s presence included meetings with buyers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders interested in the commercialization of Colombian coffee — a product that supports more than 500,000 families in the country and stands as a symbol of sustainable agriculture and rural development.

Colombia’s agricultural promotion agenda will continue with the participation of Colombian producers in the FAO’s Seed and Food Fair, taking place on October 10, 11, and 12. This will be followed by a special coffee tasting and presentation in Siena, Tuscany, as well as prominent participation in a business roundtable featuring the governors of Caquetá, Cauca, and Córdoba.

Finally, Colombia will take part in the World Food Day activities on October 16 — a date that also marks the 80th anniversary of the FAO and the inauguration of the Agriculture Museum.

In this space, Colombia will have the honor of showcasing representative elements of its rural culture, such as a ruana from Rebancá and ceramic items from Tutasá, evoking the food traditions and ancestral knowledge of the Muisca culture.

Through this participation, Colombia continues to position its coffee and agriculture as products of exceptional quality, deeply tied to national identity, sustainability, and peace.

These events and the presence of Colombian agriculture also serve as a prelude to the upcoming Second International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development, to be held in Cartagena from February 24 to 28, where Colombia will host this global meeting with the support of the FAO.
