MILAN – Coffee futures recovered in yesterday’s session, Tuesday, 8 July 2025. In New York, the Ice Arabica September expiry contract appreciated 2.6 percent (+735 points) to 285.60 cents. Yesterday’s rebound was motivated, once again, by the Brazilian weather, which forecasts little rainfall in the coffee belt later this week.
Meanwhile, Cooxupé, Brazil’s and the world’s largest coffee cooperative, announced Tuesday that its members reported the coffee harvest was 40% complete as of July 4, compared with 52% completed at the same time last year.
The latest Commitment of Traders report from the ICE Arabica has seen the Non-Commercial Speculative sector decrease their net long position by 8.15% over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 1st July 2025, to register a new long position of 14,693 lots.
In the same report, the shorter term in Nature Managed Money Fund decreased their net long position by 11.52% to register a new long position at 20,663 lots.
The longer term in nature, Index Fund sector of this market decreased their net long position by 3.33% to register a new net-long position of 32,520 lots.
The sale of Starbucks’ Chinese operations has triggered the appetites of high-profile capital groups, with bids valuing the coffee chain unit at up to $ 10 billion, according to a CNBC report, which cites people familiar with the matter.
The list of contenders would include Asia-based private equity firms firms Centurium Capital and Hillhouse Capital, as well as the US-based companies Carlyle Group and KKR & Co.
Starbucks formally started the process of selling its China operations in May. There is a possibility of Starbucks retaining a 30% stake, with the rest split among a group of buyers, each holding less than 30%, the CNBC report said.
According to CNBC, Starbucks is in the process of evaluating the offers, deal structure proposals and value creation pitches. The bidders could be shortlisted within two months, but the entire deal is unlikely to be completed by the end of this year, CNBC said.
