Harvesting advance presses down quotes in Brazil, reports CEPEA

SAO PAULO, Brazil – The coffee harvesting in the 2017/18 season has advanced in most Brazilian producing regions, favored by firm weather. Thus, prices dropped in Brazil in June. Robusta quotes decreased 17.79 reais per 60-kilo bag in the month.

On June 30, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index of robusta type 6, screen 13, Espírito Santo State, closed at 407.17 BRL (122.94 USD) per 60-kilo bag, a staggering 4.27% down compared to May 31.

On June 22, the Index closed below 400.00 BRL per bag. According to agents consulted by Cepea, despite supply increases, robusta trades were limited.

In Espírito Santo, the harvesting had reached 85% of the state area on June 30. In Rondônia, according to agents consulted by Cepea, the harvesting has finished.

Gimoka

As for arabica coffee, the weather favored the harvesting in Brazil in the second fortnight of June. Thus, most Brazilian agents were out of the market. The pace of trades should step up in August, when the first batches with scheduled delivery arrive at the market.

On June 22, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index of arabica type 6, hard cup or better (delivered in São Paulo city), closed at 424.37 BRL (127.36 USD) per 60-kilo bag, the lowest value, in nominal terms, since July 29, 2015 (421.51 BRL per bag).

Between May 31 and June 30, the arabica coffee Index dropped 1.58%, closing at 445.86 BRL (134.62 USD) per bag on June 30.
