“It has been a huge boost in my career, not only technically but in managing people.”
He was appointed to supervise his company’s workshop, oversee machine overhauls, and run regular technical training sessions. Recognition from the coffee community continues as well; at events, people still approach him about the win “a compliment,” he says, that motivates him.

Among the competition’s intense stages, one memory stands above the rest: “I can’t forget the moment they announced the champion. After every tiring and tense stage, there was a trophy waiting. Hard work pays off, and focus is key.”

John-Paul stood out for his precision and responsiveness, qualities he maintains daily through disciplined planning:
“Checklists, avoiding multitasking, double-checking, and asking for feedback. Precision is a habit.”
John-Paul still applies lessons from the competition: self-improvement, strategic thinking, and careful observation.

As espresso machines become increasingly advanced, technicians must evolve with them.
“We can now remotely check and fix machines through a phone or app. This is the future, easier and more complex at once.”
He has a particular appreciation for the NUOVA Aurelia Volumetric XT, the coffee machine used during the competition:
“Solid construction, ergonomic design, and new technology inside a classic shape. Simple yet elegant.”
A growing technician community
The competition also strengthened John-Paul’s connection to fellow technicians. “People from the UAE often message me with questions about procedures or issues. Sharing knowledge feels natural.”
With younger colleagues, he prefers hands-on mentorship: “Training, mentoring, and practice are the best ways to pass on experience.”
