OHL awarded construction project for the Coffee Airport in Caldas, Colombia

MADRID, Spain – OHL expands its presence in Colombia with the award of new contracts in the airport and road sectors for a combined value of more than €61.7 million. With these projects, OHL strengthens its presence in this country, where it has existed since 2008 and where it was awarded its first building project a few months ago – the National Museum of Memory of Colombia, in Bogotá.

OHL has been awarded, for €31.9 million, the first of the three phases of the construction project of the Coffee Airport, in the Department of Caldas, declared of strategic importance for the country and whose total budget amounts to €118 million.

The contract, awarded by Patrimonio Autónomo Aerocafé, includes the moving of more than 5 million cubic meters of earth, up to a level of 80 centimeters above the red levels of the runway strip, drainage works and the adequacy of material deposit sites.

In addition, for €29.8 million, OHL will carry out the construction of one of the four sections that will make up the future Ciudad de Cali Avenue in Bogotá. The award, obtained at the request of the Urban Development Institute, is part of an overall project that includes the development of four sections, with a total budget of €157.7 million.

La Cimbali

The section executed by OHL will be 1.67 km long, between Villacencio and Manuel Cepeda Vargas Avenues, and is part of the 7.6 km total route of Ciudad de Cali Avenue. In addition, the company will carry out 8.1 km of mixed lanes and 6.6 km of BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lanes, the construction of two stations and 1.77 km of bicycle lanes, and various urban planning works in a space of 37,647 m2.

These projects are in addition to OHL’s portfolio of civil works projects in Colombia, which includes, among others, the construction of El Rincón Avenue, from Boyacá Avenue to Carrera 91, and the Northern Highway bicycle lanes from 80th Street to 144th B Street, both in Bogotá. The company is also currently executing the Quindío road section, which completes the Central Mountain Range Crossing project; the improvement of the Málaga-Los Curos road, in Santander, and the extension of the Cúcuta aqueduct, in the department of Norte de Santander.
