VIETNAM – Coffee exports seen to be positive in Q2/2014

Exports of coffee are expected to flourish in the second quarter of this year, danviet.vn reported, citing forecast of the vice-chairman of Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (Vicofa)-Do Ha Nam.In 2013-2014 crop, Vietnam’s coffee exports are expected to surpass 1.5 million tons worth $3 billion, making a year on year increase of 20%, Nam said, providing that the coffee exports are estimated at 700 tons since the beginning of the crop, accounting for 40% of the expected volume for the whole season (including 200 tons shipped in the end of 2013 and 500 tons shipped in the first quarter of 2014), average coffee export prices are at $2,000-$2,200/ton.

This is the first time coffee exports posted high increase in the first quarter of the year, Nam said, expressing his expectation that the export volume in the second quarter will continue flourishing.

Normally,  in previous years, coffee prices declined by end of March due to rain but this year, in April the coffee prices are still high, he noted.
