WORLD POETRY DAY – Pay your coffee with a poem

To mark World Poetry Day, more than a thousand coffee establishments around the world used poetry as their currency last Saturday

To mark Unesco’s World Poetry Day last Saturday, 1,100 cafes, bars and restaurants in 23 countries across Europe, including the UK and the US and Australia offered a dose of caffeine to any customer who handed over one of their own poems.

Julius Meinl, an Austrian coffee-roasting company founded in 1862 in Vienna, was the brain behind this initiative, championing the idea that “feelings are more valuable than money.”
