As the Solar Impulse project – the world’s first attempt to fly round the globe in a solar powered aircraft – takes off today from Abu Dhabi, Stefan Catsicas, Nestlé’s Chief Technology Officer, discusses what the Solar Impulse partnership means for Nestlé.

The round trip is expected to take five months and Nestlé Research has developed specialised diets for the two Swiss pilots, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, to help them cope with extreme variations in temperature and climate.

Stefan Catsicas elaborates on what inspired Nestlé to partner the project, how it fits with the company’s mission and how Nestlé’s scientists are pushing the boundaries of nutrition with their specially adapted diet for the flight.

“This project is a fantastic human adventure…we want to show the world that you can be a responsible, environmentally friendly person and still do extraordinary things.”
