MILAN – Trung Nguyen Legend, the leading domestic coffee brand in Vietnam, is building the largest net-zero coffee processing plant in South-East Asia. On Monday 10 March, the company broke ground on the new Trung Nguyen Legend ‘Energy Coffee Factory’, which will be built on an area of 50,000 square metres at the Tan An 2 Industrial Complex in Buon Ma Thuot, for an investment of around eighty million dollars.
Trung Nguyen Legend exports its products to one hundred countries and territories, including the USA, the EU, Canada, Russia, China, Japan and the ASEAN countries.
The ceremony was also attended by Ico’s Executive Director, Vanúsia Nogueira, who took part in the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival, which is running until tomorrow.
The project will be developed in two phases. The plant will use the most advanced Italian and German technologies, says the company, and will be highly energy efficient, environmentally sustainable and net-zero compliant.
The factory will have a maximum building density of 60%, with more than 20 per cent designated as green space. It will incorporate architectural features from the Ottoman, Roman and Zen civilisations, blended with indigenous cultural elements.
The buildings will be surrounded by trees, water features, pathways and other elements to create a relaxing and natural working environment. They will be powered by an advanced solar panel system.
The Trung Nguyen Legend Energy Coffee Factory will be Trung Nguyen’s fifth factory in Vietnam and the second in the Buon Ma Thuot area, a city considered the coffee capital of Vietnam.
The project is part of the fourth of seven initiatives launched by Trung Nguyen Legend’s president, Dang Le Nguyen Vu.
The idea behind this initiative – called ‘Comprehensively Circularising and Integrating the Coffee Production Chain’ – is to create a circular production chain that is structured to avoid harmful waste and ensure environmental sustainability. All within a highly efficient and integrated resource management system.
The new coffee factory underscores the “group’s next step in the journey to raise the value of Buon Ma Thuot Robusta coffee beans while contributing to the socioeconomic development of Buon Ma Thuot and Dak Lak,” explain local media.
Below normal rainfall in the Brazilian coffee belt has triggered a new rally in coffee futures.
Yesterday, Tuesday 11 March 2025, both markets posted strong gains, reversing the negative trend of the previous sessions. In New York, the May contract rose 2.5% (+975 points) to 393.75 cents.
London also rose, with the main contract (May) gaining 3.3% to close at $5,552. A further fall in the dollar index, to its lowest level in four and a half months, was also a major contributor to the rally.
