BARCELONA, Spain – SELF, the first restaurant in the world operated by artificial intelligence, has been opened inside the Barcelona Airport. SELF was developed by IJRRobótica and AEV with technology from MasterCard and ICG. There are also brands such as Lavazza, Coca-Cola and Danone.
The restaurant, created in collaboration with Areas, a Spanish multinational in the food and beverage sector, is inside the commercial area of Terminal 1 and covers around 137 mq2.
The innovative project uses an advanced robotic arm which can handle six orders at the same time.
However, the restaurant operates also with human resources to provide the best customer experience possible.
Customers order via touchsceen and a signal on a screen tells them when the tray is ready. Also SELF provides a valuable sustainability strategy with energy-efficient led technology and FSC- certified paper packaging.
