Australians and New Zealanders have differing tastes when it comes to food says The Coffee Club New Zealand. At the launch of its new menu this week, the popular café chain, which operates in both countries, revealed where Kiwi tastes differ from their Aussie cousins.

It has been revealed that a number of dishes that are best sellers in Australia are less popular here, and vice versa.

For example, quinoa salad is the most popular salad dish across New Zealand stores, but in Australia it has been removed from the menu. In contrast, the Greek salad ranks highly in Australia, where it’s less popular here.

Tastes also differ for other types of meals, as Brad Jacobs, Director at The Coffee Club explained. “We see quite big differences between what’s popular here and what sells well in Australia – almost opposites.

The Philly cheese steak sandwich is really successful here, but not so much over there. Whereas for Australia, the Reuben sandwich is massively popular, but not in New Zealand.”

The differences in tastes were revealed as The Coffee Club New Zealand worked on their spring/summer menu, which launches this week.

It features a range of new brunch style dishes including open blue cheese & mushroom toasties, pancakes with berry compote and breakfast bruschetta.

“We’re really pleased with the new menu. We’ve taken some time to see what the trends are and what Kiwis are asking for. Brunch is getting more and more popular, so we’ve added some new dishes to cater for that.

We’ve also looked at the rest of the menu, and added some new dishes that we think people will love, such as our grilled halloumi salad, brioche burger range and a chicken, cranberry & brie open toastie,” said Brad.

The Coffee Club opened its first store in New Zealand in 2005, and has grown rapidly, since then, opening stores all over New Zealand.

The Coffee Club now has 60 cafes and restaurants in New Zealand. The new menu will be available across all locations from Wednesday, 9 November 2016 onwards.
