Indian coffee output likely to decline next year

MILAN – India’s coffee output may decline as much as 8 percent in 2016/17 due to a “due to lack of timely rains and high temperature during the crucial flowering stage,” Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in India’s House of the People, or Lok Sabha.

The Union government is considering withdrawal of the Coffee Act, 1942, as it is “no longer serving the purpose,” the Minister also said.
