HAMBURG, Germany – Hamburg Coffee Company HACOFCO mbH has been officially recognized under the Global Coffee Platform (GCP) Equivalence Mechanism 2.0. Their CONNECT sustainability standard has been assessed as equivalent to the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code (Coffee SR Code) for 2nd Party Assurance.

The Coffee SR Code serves as a global benchmark for sustainable coffee production, addressing critical issues such as climate change, gender equity, economic resilience, and environmental protection.

HACOFCO’s CONNECT program was created to foster transparency, traceability, and continuous improvement across their supply chains.

At its core, the program strengthens long-term partnerships between coffee producers and roasters, with HACOFCO serving as a trusted link and partner for both.

The GCP recognition confirms that CONNECT meets both the Coffee SR Code and the Operational Criteria under the Equivalence Mechanism 2.0. The independent review was conducted in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), ensuring a credible and transparent process.

This recognition highlights the strong commitment of the HACOFCO Group, including our sister companies BRASCOF, AMCOF and ICT, to uphold rigorous sustainability standards within our supply chains – from safeguarding human rights and protecting natural resources to promoting responsible farming and effective management practices. It also underscores the strength of the HACOFCO CONNECT approach and the dedication of our team and partners to building a more sustainable coffee sector.

HACOFCO’s CONNECT equips roasters worldwide with the tools and support they need to strengthen relationships with farmer partners and make a lasting, positive impact across the entire coffee supply chain.

“We applaud the GCP Members for stepping up to align with the Coffee SR Code. Their dedication helps drive the coffee sector forward and signals a growing collective move to align and integrate at least foundational levels of sustainability into the coffee business at different levels of the value chain. Their commitment underscores a growing consensus in the sector: that aligning around shared principles and practices is essential for meaningful progress”,said Annette Pensel, Executive Director of GCP.

“This achievement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to drive positive change across the coffee value chain,” said Stephan Niesel, Managing Director of HACOFCO while Jessenia Arguello Perez, Sustainable Supply Chain Manager at AMCOF, added: “This recognition of CONNECT will further strengthen our collaboration with producers, supporting their productivity, quality, and impact through shared goals — helping us all make a greater difference in the coffee community from the ground up.”
