HANOI— Vietnam is the new “King of Coffee”, according to a recent article published by the weekly French magazine Le Point and titled “Le Viet Nam, nouveau roi du cafe”.

Vietnam is the world’s second largest coffee producer after Brazil, supplying 39% of robusta coffee bean for the world market, says the article, adding that the Southeast Asian country is the leading coffee supplier of France.

Quoting statistics from the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Le Point reports that the country earned US$2.3 billion from manufacturing 1.76 million tonnes of coffee last year.

Vietnam The French magazine underlines that several foreign groups such as Mondelez, Nesle or Ecom are providing assistance to Vietnamese farmers in coffee cultivation techniques.

The US group of Mondelez has opened a training centre in the country, and committed to invest a total of $200 million from now to 2020 in Vietnam’s coffee industry.

Industry experts say the coffee industry’s future lies in Vietnam – the article states – as no other country can meet the great demand for robusta coffee materials at a time when the consumption of this variety is ever-increasing.
