TRIESTE, Italy – illycaffè has announced the 9 finalist countries whose best Arabica lots have been selected for the 5th edition of the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award. The Award will be assigned in November 2020, in the memory of Ernesto Illy, son of the company founder and pioneer of the virtuous cooperation with growers for sustainable high-quality coffee production. illycaffè Quality Labs analyzed the samples of the 2019/2020 harvest and selected the best finalist lots for the 5th Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award.
Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, and Rwanda are the 9 coffee-growing countries of this year Award.
An independent multidisciplinary jury of international experts (chefs, journalists, professional tasters selected among baristas and international associations of coffee producers), will select the winner.
The jury will have to taste and evaluate the 9 finalist samples choosing among four different preparations (espresso, filter, moka and drip).
On the same day, the winner of “Coffee Lovers’ Choice” will also be announced. The 9 finalist coffees will also be scored by consumers. The coffee with the highest scores, assigned in a series of tastings in illy flag-shops, will be awarded with the “Coffee Lovers’ Choice”.
The 9 finalist coffees of the 5th Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award, will be available to be savored in illy flagships all over the world, and will join the collection of the Author’s Note coffee collection.
