MILAN – The second official estimate for Brazil’s 2019-2020 crop released this Thursday (16) by the National Supply Company (CONAB) pegs production at 50.92 million bags, a 17.4% year-on-year reduction from a record crop of 61.65 million bags. The forecast comes in at the low end of a range between 50.5 million to 54.5 million bags seen in Conab’s first estimate released in January.

The decline is mainly attributable to the off year in the biennial cycle characterising Arabica production in Brazil.

Arabica coffee, which represents a production of 72% of the total, should reach 36.98 million bags, a 22.1% reduction compared to the previous season.

Robusta (conilon) coffee production is estimated at 13.94 million bags, a decrease of 1.7% compared to 2018.
