CAIRO, Saudi Arabia – Saudi authorities will allow some food businesses to resume their activities during the period of Ramadan that began on Friday. According to Saudi newspaper Ajel, the Ministry of Municipal and Village Affairs will allow coffee shops offering drinks and fresh juices as well as sweet stores and manual bakeries to reoperate in Ramadan.

The number of workers at those businesses will be defined according to certain guidelines.

“The chief of the area or the governorate will specify what he sees appropriate according to higher orders,” the sources added without further details.

Last week, Saudi Arabia eased hours of a curfew in place as part of precautionary measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus in the kingdom.

People are allowed to go outdoors in Ramadan from 9 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, except residents of districts subjected to a complete health lockdown.
