MILAN – Brazilian exports fell sharply in May: according to statistics released yesterday evening (Tuesday 10 June) by Cecafé, Brazil’s shipments fell by a third (-33.3%) compared to last year, amounting to 2,963,201 bags. The drop in green coffee exports was even more pronounced (-35.9%), with exports amounting to 2,602,863 bags compared to over 4 million bags a year ago.
Arabica volumes totalled 2,400,177 bags (-24.6%), while Robusta volumes amounted to just 202,686 bags, down from 879,905 bags in May 2024 (-77%).
Sales of processed coffee (mostly soluble) were also lower (-6.2%) at 360,338 bags.

In the first five months of the year, exports totalled 16,789,878 bags: This is 19.2% less than in the same period of 2024, according to Cecafé. A total of 15,127,077 bags of green coffee were exported, which was a 21% decrease.

Arabica shipments fell to 14,115,966 bags (-10%), while Robusta shipments fell sharply (-70.7%) to just over 1 million bags, compared to over 3.45 million last year.
Conversely, there was a slight increase in processed coffee sales, reaching 1,662,801 bags (+1.1%).

It should be noted that exports in the first 11 months of the 2024/25 crop year have remained at a very high level.
In fact, between July 2024 and May 2025, Brazil shipped 42,967,505 bags — just 2% less than last year’s record volume of 43,841,128 bags.
Green coffee exports totalled 39,067,521 bags (-3.3%). Arabica shipments remained virtually unchanged at 32,971,809 bags. Robusta volumes decreased by 17.9% to 6,095,712 bags. Meanwhile, sales of processed coffee increased by 13.3% to 3,899,984 bags.

Returning to the first five months of the year, there was a drop in shipments to almost all of the major origins, beginning with the USA (-17.4%) and Germany (-28.7%).
Exports to Italy totalled 1,375,030 bags, a decrease of 17.5%. Exports to Belgium fell heavily (-61.7%), while volumes to Japan, Turkey and the Russian Federation increased.

Hamburg remained the top port of destination, followed by Antwerp, New Orleans and Genoa.
Meanwhile, the latest data on the progress of Brazil’s 2025/26 crop has contributed to price declines in both futures markets. In New York, the July futures contract fell by 1.8 per cent yesterday, closing at 355.05 cents. In London, meanwhile, September ICE Robusta coffee fell by $134, to settle at $4,317.
