MILAN – Brazilian exports fell sharply in April: according to monthly data released yesterday by Cecafé, Brazil exported 3,092,802 bags of all forms of coffee, marking a drop of almost 1.2 million (-27.7%) compared to April 2024. Green coffee exports fell sharply to 2,784,300 bags (-29.1%).
Arabica shipments were down by 17.4% to 2,680,723 bags, while Robusta shipments plummeted to 103,577 bags: less than a sixth (-84.9%) of last year’s level.
The drop in the sales of processed coffee was lower (-10.8%) to 308,502 bags, mostly instant coffee. The year-to-date balance is also negative.

Between January and April, exports of all forms of coffee totalled 13,816,298 bags (-15.5%). Exports of green coffee fell by 17% to 12,515,788 bags, of which 11,708,623 were Arabica (-6.4%) and 807,165 bags (-68.7%) Robusta.
Exports of processed coffee bucked the trend, rising by 3.1% to 1,300,510 bags.

On the other hand, the trend remained positive in the first 10 months of the 2024/25 crop year (July 2024-April 2025). Exports of all forms of coffee reached a new record-high of 39,993,925 bags (+1.5%) during the period.

Green coffee exports were stable (+0.3%) at 36,456,232 bags, of which 30,564,466 were Arabica (+2.6%) and 5,891,766 Robusta (-10%). Sales abroad of processed coffee rose by 15.7% to 3,537,693 bags.
Looking again at the first four months of the calendar year 2025, we see an overall decline in shipments to almost all markets. Exports to the United States, Germany and Italy – the three main markets for Brazilian coffee – fell by 11.2%, 24.4% and 13% respectively.

The only notable exception is Japan, whose imports from Brazil increased by 6.1%, outstripping those of Belgium (-63.1%).
Hamburg remains by far the main port of destination, followed by Genoa, New Orleans, Antwerp and Bremen.

According to Cecafé President Márcio Ferreira, the drop in export volumes is understandable in the period between harvests, even more so after the record volumes exported during 2024.
