African Fine Coffee Conference & Exhibition kicks off today in Kigali

KIGALI, Rwanda – The 17th edition of the African Fine Coffee Conference & Exhibition begins today, to last until February 15th in Kigali, Rwanda. This is the second time Rwanda is hosting this prestigious event organised by the African association of fine coffees (AFCA). The previous conference was held in Rwanda in 2009.

Themed Specialty Coffees at the Heart of Africa, the conference will host coffee farmers, processors and traders and buyers at international level as well as 2,000 experts.

Over 100 people in coffee value chain will showcase the process of its processing from the farm to the market.

On the African continent, Rwanda comes the fourth (4th) with high coffee productivity after Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania. Burundi is the fifth and DRC the sixth.

According to NAEB, Rwanda’s coffee production raised at 19 percent during the fiscal year 2017/2018, from 18,439 tons to 21,959,880 that made a turn of $69,359,159.

Until December 2018, the country sold 24,500 tons of coffee, making $67 million. 97 percent of coffee produced in Rwanda is exported while 3% remains for local consumption.

It is expected that the country will harvest 26,000 tons of coffee in 2019 that will make a turn of $70 million.
