FLORENCE, Italy – Accademia del caffè espresso announces the American premiere of The rise of espresso, its in-house documentary feature film dedicated to Italian emigrants who, throughout the years, have contributed to promote espresso coffee culture all over the world. The documentary was directed by Enrico Ventrice, an Italian, award-winning documentary filmmaker.

The luckiest espresso lovers have already been able to enjoy Accademia del caffè espresso’s latest documentary by taking part in several events related to Italy and Espresso around the world: so far, the documentary has been screened in Australia, Ecuador, Italy, South Africa, Germany, Egypt, Romania and France.

The United States is one of the countries that came to love coffee and espresso the most, and a destination with a rich history of Italian immigration, that traces back to more than a hundred years ago. The stories in the documentary showcase the growth of espresso from an Italian tradition to a global cultural phenomenon, with the U.S. playing an integral part in it.

Many American cities were often the ideal environment to foster the dreams, the growth and the love for espresso of many of the Italians that had chosen to dedicate their lives to espresso coffee, contributing to make it a symbol of Made in Italy.

Accademia del caffè espresso unveiled its documentary in the U.S. for the first time starting from the city of Chicago on February 2nd. The first three screening events, in fact, will involve the East Coast and the Midwest: the documentary was screened in Chicago on February 2nd. Then it will be screened in Boston on February 4th, and in NYC, on February 5th.

Produced in its entirety by Accademia del caffè espresso, The rise of espresso embodies a novel approach to the popularization of espresso coffee culture, in the hopes of raising public knowledge and appreciation for quality coffee, and the understanding of its supply chain and the people who lie behind an apparently simple cup of coffee.

This project is part of a broader approach to the topic, which initiated from Accademia’s exhibit “Coffee Migrant | Migrant Coffee – BRAZIL Chapter I”, currently on display in Florence, portraying the significant migratory flow of over a million Italians, between the 19th and 20th centuries, to Brazilian ports and which has brought them to engage in coffee cultivation and businesses.

Instead, the second chapter of the exhibit, “Coffee Migrant | Migrant Coffee – NEW WORLDS Chapter II”, will be inaugurated in 2025 and will illustrate the journey of Italian migrants to the New Worlds (Australia, Canada, U.S.), acting as an extension of the documentary’s narrative.

Accademia del caffè espresso is a cultural hub located in Florence, created to preserve and promote espresso coffee culture by increasing its appreciation and relevance on a global scale.
