BOGOTA – Chosen in 2011 by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the top 5 hotels in Colombia, Hacienda Bambusa is an intimate 8 room boutique hotel and working hacienda surrounded by over 500 acres of cacao, plantain, tangerine, and pineapple.

The Hacienda fuses an authentic farmhouse essence with bright contemporary art, personalized service and regional cuisine. Surrounded by the lush and verdant scenery of Colombia’s coffee growing region, guests spend time visiting local coffee growers, hiking in nearby Valle de Cocora National Park and visiting the regions cheerful rural villages on privately guided outings.

Hacienda Bambusa’s owner and previous manager, Santiago Montoya, decided to temporarily close the unique property in September of 2013 in order to concentrate on his growing success and notoriety as an artist.

“I didn’t rush in finding new management as I was very particular in looking for a team with the right experience and professionalism, but most import, the right character that understood the soul and vision of Bambusa, the service disposition that made it so popular in the first place” stated Montoya.

Olivier Dufeu, past General Manager of two Relais & Chateaux properties in Argentina has assumed overall management and operation of Hacienda Bambusa and is hard at work with his select team, getting the property ready for the December 1st re-opening. Olivier will be joined by Diego Ruiz as Operations Manager, Pablo Perez Sancho as Guest Services Manager and Christian Monroy as Executive Chef.

The number of arriving foreign tourists to Colombia has grown by 10% every year since 2000, which is three times higher than the world’s average.

Leslie Fineman, a San Francisco-based luxury travel advisor with SmartFlyer tells us “Colombia is such a trending destination right now. However, the ongoing issue in Colombia has been finding properties that have experience in catering to discerning international clientele.

Every client I have sent to Hacienda Bambusa has raved that it was the highlight of their trip” While Sasha Lehman, Director of Operations for the New York based tour operator Absolute Travel adds, “Colombia’s coffee region is one of the most beautiful and authentic in the country.

We try to encourage every visitor to Colombia to include it in their itinerary. Hacienda Bambusa has always been our favorite property there and its closure seriously impacted our ability to operate tours to the region. It’s re-opening by such a talented and professional team has renewed our ability to enthusiastically promote sending clients there.”
