ICO – Roberio Silva is the new executive director

MILAN – Roberio Oliveira Silva, director for coffee at Brazil's agriculture ministry, is ICO’s new executive director. The Brazilian candidate was appointed by consensus after his Mexican rival withdrew, according to ICO sources.

"We will increase cooperation between producing countries and work for the increase of coffee consumption," Silva stated in an interview. "Brazil holds the ICO in high regard. We will work with all producing and consuming countries," he added.

A source at the agriculture ministry in Brazil reported that Silva's appointment was sealed after his rival, Mexico's Rodolfo Trampe, who heads a producers' association there, pulled out of the race, leaving no other contenders.
