Brazil’s coffee crop in 2015/16 is set to fall to 43 million 60-kg bags down 6.5 percent from an estimated 46 million bags in 2014/15, German based analyst F.O. Licht reported on Friday.
This further fall in production reflects the worst drought in decades that hit Brazil’s coffee belt earlier this year.
Licht sees global coffee production of 145.5 million 60-kg bags in 2014/15, down from 152.9 million in 2013/14.
Senior analyst Stefan Uhlenbrock said he saw the potential for this year’s flowering as significantly reduced. Earlier than usual rains in July were also a problem since they triggered premature flowering in some areas in August and there had been a lack of rain since.
